Petaling Jaya (17 November) – After 40 hours of the closure of Jalan Tanjung Bandar Utama, majority of the road users are now well aware, and the traffic along Jalan Tanjung is getting slightly better.
Heavy traffic after work hours
In order to determine the actual traffic situation along Jalan Tanjung, a reporter from Nanyang Siang Pau made an inspection at the closure area and the Tropicana area after work hours, at 6pm on Tuesday, and discovered that the traffic stretched 800 meters at the traffic light of Persiaran Tropicana towards One Utama, while the traffic at the opposite lane was smooth.
The reporter observed a signboard erected at the closure area with the notice “Private entry to Technology Park only.”
A temporary booth was set up for security guards and RELA members at the intersection of Jalan Tanjung.
In addition, traffic police were on duty at each of the two traffic lights at Lebuh Bandar Utama.
Jalan Tanjung links traffic from Kota Damansara and Sungai Buloh to Bandar Utama, and road users will also use Lebuh Bandar Utama to go to the SPRINT Expressway. From the intersection of Lebuh Bandar Utama, 800 sq ft of this 2-ways route belongs to private owners while the rest are owned by LLM.
A few road users were still unaware of the road closure even though it has been closed for 40 hours, but the condition of the traffic is getting better from the first day of the closure.
PJ Mayor: MBPJ concerns
Handover the road closure report to council tomorrow
Datuk Roslan, Petaling Jaya Mayor said during an interview with Nanyang on Tuesday, that the early closure of Jalan Tanjung Bandar Utama was an issue for MBPJ.
The authorities are drafting a report and will raise the issue at the MTES meeting this coming Thursday.
Earlier on, representatives of 19 organizations from Damansara areas had handed a petition to MBPJ, and had a dialogue with Deputy Mayor En Puasa.
MBPJ has no right to take control of private land
Puasa had promised to assign personnel to stand guard at Jalan Tanjung during an earlier dialogue, to ensure that the road will not be closed earlier than 20 November.
Referring to the unfulfilled promise, Datuk Roslan said that the closure area is private land, and MBPJ does not have the right to encroach.
“The road closure incident is deemed too sudden. We were only notified yesterday afternoon without knowing the reason of this early closure.” However, we won’t be taking any action against developer for now; any decision will have to wait until the meeting this Thursday”.
Erected signboard notified that the road closure will start on 20 November, however, the closure was earlier by 4 days.
