Petaling Jaya - Menteri Besar Selangor Tan Sri Khalid said that Jalan Tanjung will be opened for two week starting Tuesday so as to ease the traffic problem at Damansara. He said that was the consensus reached during a meeting with the developers of Bandar Utama City Corporation and DiJaya Corporation.

However, according to Guang Ming Daily reporter on Tuesday afternoon, the road was still closed. It is not known when the road will be reopened.

The Guang Ming reporter who was assigned to check on the road closure on Tuesday reported that the road is still closed, and not open for traffic on the instruction by the Selangor MB as reported by the news media. By 3pm Tuesday, there was still no instruction to reopen the road and motorists were complaining at the authorities.

Many motorists who used Jalan Tanjung were forced to make a U-turn as the road was not opened. Staffs working at a multimedia company nearby had to go through security check before being allowed access to the restricted zone.

A security officer who was assigned to stand guard at Jalan Tanjung said he did hear that the closed Jalan Tanjung was to be reopened on Tuesday. But, there wasn’t any clear instruction for him to open the road.

He said many motorists believed that Jalan Tanjung will be reopened on Tuesday. But, as no instruction was given, he advised motorists to use alternative roads. It was learned that from morning until afternoon, a lot of motorists turned up at the office to lodge complaints and to unleash their anger.

“We have put up a notice on the road closure, but were defaced by naughty hands. As a result, many motorists were unaware of the road closure. We only follow instructions. We cannot handle any complaints from the motorists.”

“I have waited for four hours since 9am, but no instruction was given to remove the road blocks,” said Mr Tan, an excavator driver.

He said if the government really wants to ease traffic at the area, Jalan Tanjung should not only close for two weeks.

Meanwhile, two representatives of the developer Bandar Utama said that they have to wait for instructions from the management, and refused to disclose any details. They also did not know when the road will be reopened.

JALAN TANJUNG TO REOPEN FOR TWO WEEKS TO EASE TRAFFIC

Tan Sri Khalid, the Menteri Besar of Selangor said Jalan Tanjung will be reopened for two weeks so that motorists from Tropicana will be able drive to Bandar Utama, thus easing the traffic problem faced by the residents.

He stressed that the temporary alternative solution should ease the traffic jam problem. Meanwhile, the state government is also studying to expand Jalan Tanjung from two to four lanes.

He said if the road expansion plan is feasible, the state government would cooperate with the developer of Bandar Utama to convert Jalan Tanjung from a temporary to a permanent road.

“In order to ease the flow of traffic, the state government has directed MBPJ to move the U-turn at the junction of Tropicana south zone and Jalan Hilir Bandar Utama to the front of an orchard farm.”

“A road linking Tropicana and Ara Damansara PJU 1A/1 will be built. These two steps are to be implemented immediately,” he added.
