Petaling Jaya (16 November) – 19 organizations from Damansara are frustrated with the developer who did not fulfill its promise when they put up the barricade at Jalan Tanjung on Monday before dawn, causing the working-class and students to get caught in a jam for more than one and a half hours.
End of October, Bandar Utama City Corporation (BUCC) erected signboards along Jalan Tanjung, notifying that the closure of the road to Lebuh Bandar Utama will start on the 20th of this month, while the road leading towards Kuala Lumpur will not be affected.
Action Group Chairman, Mohamed Shukri said, he received notice of the barricade being put up from a security guard at 1am today.
He said, due to the road closure, users from Bandar Utama and Kuala Lumpur have to detour through Bukit Utama Garden, turn in to Persiaran Tropicana, Lebuh Bandar Utama or Jalan Kampung Kayu Ara, in order to go to Kuala Lumpur or Damansara.
19 organizations shouted “remove barricade”
“With the 5km detour, which is further than the usual 1.5km journey, the traffic condition will get worse especially with only one access road”.
Shukri and the Action Group Committee comprised of representatives from 19 Damansara organizations held an emergency meeting this afternoon.
In spite of the late night and drizzle, the committee went ahead to protest at the barricade after the emergency meeting. They carried placards with “remove barricade” slogans. Many by-passers sounded their horn to show support.
The road closure incident is deemed too sudden and many residents have not received the news and many road users are still not aware of it. RELA members were at the site to give instructions to U-turn at the barricade; and this causes anger amongst the road users.
Shukri said, “The committee members have gathered 11 thousand signatures from residents, which were handed over to MBPJ last week. Committee members also proposed to the Selangor government to buy over the 800 sq ft land; however, there was no respond”.
He said, committee members will continue to protest, urging the government to look into residents’ appeal. |

More than a thousand students were late for half an hour
The president of PIBG SMJK (C ) Damansara, Mr Ong Siew Sang said schools and parents are frustrated with the sudden road closure at Jalan Tanjung, and more than 1000 students were half an hour late for class on Monday.
He said that the developer promised to close the road starting 20 November as it is the last day of school for this year, and students will go for a month-long holiday after that, thus giving schools and parents associations time to deliberate on the closure.
“The developer suddenly closed the road before dawn today, this frustrated schools and parents and resulted in chaos at school this morning as students were late for more than half an hour”.
Ong Siew Sang said, due to the closure at Jalan Tanjung, parents who send their kids to schools were forced to detour; parents have to leave earlier so that their kids can arrive at school on time.
He said that the schools had sent notice to parents informing them of the road closure and urging parents to leave earlier the next few days to avoid traffic.
Another resident from Bukit Utama, Yu Xue Ming (a 45-year-old lecturer) said, since the Jalan Tanjung 2-way road was closed suddenly, road users will have to U-turn and will be caught in this jam. Should anyone get a heart attack and needed to be sent to the hospital, the consequence would be unbearable.
He said, due to the road closure, he has to leave house at 6am to go to Kota Damansara, but still got caught in the jam for one and a half hours from Persiaran Bandar Utama to Lebuh Bandar Utama.
“SPM will start this Wednesday and the road closure will cause many students to be late for the examinations, which causes a lot of inconvenience.” He urges the developer to re-open the road to avoid chaos among residents nearby. |
